Are there any expectations I’m not allowed to have as a sponsor?
Yes — to protect the dignity and safety of Ukrainian guests, USPUK will not approve any sponsor who has unreasonable or inappropriate expectations. A key requirement for becoming a sponsor is flexibility, respect, and a willingness to share your home without imposing unfair demands.
Here are some expectations that are strictly not allowed:
❌ Expecting guests to provide free labour such as childcare, elderly care, cleaning, or working as a live-in carer or nanny
❌ Having romantic or sexual motivations for offering sponsorship — any hint of this leads to immediate disqualification
❌ Charging rent or money for services during the first 6 months of sponsorship — financial support from the UK government is meant to cover basic costs
❌ Imposing unreasonable rules — guests must have the freedom to come and go without needing your permission
USPUK only supports matches that are safe, respectful, and supportive. Sponsors must view their role as one of temporary support and shared living, not as a service exchange
USPUK ia a recognised provider under the UK Government’s Homes for Ukraine Visa Scheme, USPUK continues to support safe and appropriate sponsorship matches for displaced Ukrainians.
