Specified Adult Childcare Credits

Information Pack for Afghans on the ARAP and ACRS schemes

Specified Adult Childcare Credits allow certain family members who help look after a child under 12 to receive National Insurance credits. This can help towards their State Pension entitlement.

What Are Specified Adult Childcare Credits?

These are credits transferred from a parent (who receives Child Benefit) to a family member who is caring for the child. They help fill gaps in the carer’s National Insurance record.

Who Can Apply?

You may apply if:

  • You are a family member (e.g. grandparent, aunt, uncle, older sibling).

  • You provided care for a child under 12.

  • The child’s parent receives Child Benefit.

  • You are under State Pension age.

Note: Parents caring for their own children are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply

Complete form CA9176.

The parent receiving Child Benefit must also sign the form.

Post it to HMRC after 31 October following the tax year you’re applying for.

What You Need

  • Your National Insurance number

  • Details of the child

  • Details of the Child Benefit recipient

  • Dates of care provided

Why It Matters

If you're not paying National Insurance, these credits help protect your future State Pension.
