USPUK October 2025 Newsletter – Ukraine & Afghanistan Updates

Dear friends and supporters,

Every week, we help Ukrainian and Afghan families find safety, reunite with their loved ones, and take their first steps toward rebuilding their lives in the UK. Here’s some updates from October that we hope you’ll find interesting.

Ukraine Update – urgent humanitarian needs

Over the past weeks, Ukraine has been subjected to intensified attacks on both civilian infrastructure and educational facilities. In one tragic incident, a kindergarten in the city of Kharkiv was struck by Russian drones on 22 October — the facility was hit while children and staff were present, resulting in at least one fatality and several injured.

In addition, widespread missile and drone attacks have targeted Ukraine’s energy grid, causing extensive power‐cuts across cities and regions. For example, the city of Chernihiv suffered large‐scale blackouts after energy infrastructure was damaged.

These assaults not only devastate infrastructure but also place children, families and vulnerable communities at huge risk—especially as winter approaches.

Your support matters: by donating or hosting a family, you help provide safety, shelter and hope when it’s needed most.

Matching Update – Oksana & her family

We are delighted to share the story of Oksana and her son, who were matched via our Resettlement project.

When war touched their home region, Oksana made the brave decision to apply for help. With the support of our programme, she and her son were matched with a generous host family in the UK. Today, they are building a new life, safe and supported.

👉 We still need more hosts: if you can open your home, you can change a life. Please visit our “Become a Host” page or contact us for more information  sponsors@uspuk.org
