USPUK Charity Newsletter - June 2026
As Refugee Week 2026 continues across the UK, it has been inspiring to see communities coming together to celebrate the contributions, resilience and achievements of people seeking sanctuary.
At a time when public discourse towards refugees seeking safety can often be challenging, these moments of welcome, solidarity and connection are more important than ever. Across the country, local organisations, community groups, volunteers and refugee-led initiatives are hosting events that bring people together, share stories and highlight the positive impact that refugees make within our communities.
If you have not yet taken part, there is still time to get involved and support Refugee Week activities in your area. We encourage our supporters, sponsors, volunteers and community members to explore local events and join in celebrating the strength and diversity that refugees bring to the UK.
Celebrating 150th match
We are thrilled to share that the Ukrainian Sponsorship Project, delivered by USPUK since March 2022, has now brought Ukrainians and their hosts together through more than 150 successful matches. This work has directly supported over 1,200 people accessing safety which is a huge achievement for our small team of three people currently working on the project. The need for safety, welcome and stability is still very real. Please support our continued efforts to help Ukrainians fleeing the war find safe homes and caring communities in the UK as Kyiv and other Ukrainain cities remain unsafe.
Support the Next Chapter for Afghan Families
USPUK aims to raise £5,000 to launch a 12-month pilot project supporting Afghan families as they prepare for the Life in the UK Test.
Many Afghans who arrived in the UK through evacuation and resettlement schemes in 2021 are expected to become eligible for British citizenship over the coming months and years. For many families displaced by war and conflict, this represents an important milestone in rebuilding their lives and securing their future in the UK.
We have already developed a Life in the UK information pack and are working on translated versions to make information more accessible. Through this pilot project, we will continue developing practical resources, deliver information workshops, and provide one-to-one guidance to help families prepare for this important step.

USPUK Begins Journey Towards Immigration Advice Accreditation
USPUK is taking another important step forward in supporting refugees by expanding access to free immigration advice and guidance. Through our partnership with Refugee Action and the Frontline Immigration Advice Project (FIAP), our team is undertaking specialist training to become accredited Immigration advisors and strengthen the support we provide to displaced communities. Aimed to start from early 2027, our free legal advice support will enable us to offer regulated immigration advice to refugees navigating lives in the UK.
