USPUK Charity Newsletter - May 2026
This May, our updates reflected the many layers of support behind successful resettlement from bringing our Ukrainian and Afghan teams together, to representing USPUK at international level, encouraging more people to host, and sharing the lived experiences of the communities we support.
Building financial confidence for families starting a new life in the UK
USPUK completed a series of in-person financial wellbeing workshops for displaced families at our London office, delivered in partnership with The Money Charity. The programme supported participants with practical guidance on the UK financial system and banking, budgeting and saving, credit and borrowing, and safe money practices from understanding payslips, tax and National Insurance to recognising scams and managing everyday money with more confidence.
Participants who attended all four workshops received certificates of completion, recognising their commitment to building financial knowledge and confidence in the UK. What made these workshops even more meaningful was the connection they created between the two communities USPUK supports - Afghan and Ukrainian.
At USPUK, this programme reflects our long-term commitment to supporting displaced communities beyond general advice, helping people navigate life in the UK. We are grateful to The Money Charity for delivering these practical and accessible workshops for our community.
Spring is the time for team gatherings
Our team works across the UK, supporting communities in different parts of the country. Each year, we have a tradition of coming together for a special team-building day. This is more than just a team meeting. It reflects our real commitment to bringing our Ukrainian and Afghan teams together.
At USPUK, we believe that only people who feel supported can support others well. That is why the wellbeing of our team is one of our priorities.
USPUK at the Global Ukrainian Summit 2026
We are pleased to share that Ukraine Team Lead Tanya Naimanova will represent USPUK at the Global Ukrainian Summit 2026, hosted by the Ukrainian World Congress, from 5–7 June 2026 in Bern, Switzerland.
The Summit will bring together Ukrainian leaders from around the world, institutions and international partners to discuss cooperation, advocacy and support for Ukrainian communities globally. USPUK is proud to take part as a charity rooted in lived experience, supporting Ukrainians and other displaced communities in the UK.
Could you offer a spare room?
Our focus stays the same: protecting vulnurable, making sure Ukrainians have a voice in our communities, and helping people gain the skills and opportunities that lead to work, stability, and dignity.
Our bespoke matching scheme, which we have run since the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, is designed to ensure that both sponsors and guests are safe and supported throughout the process.
Special thank you to Peter and Jenny, our wonderful volunteers, who are kindly hosting for the third time with USPUK. Their continued support means a great deal to our team and to the families starting again in safety.
Please let us know if your guests have already moved on or if you are considering hosting for the first time. We would be happy to support you with a new match if you are open to hosting again.
