Success Story: When the Right Support Changes Everything

Support services can often feel invisible, existing quietly in the background and unnoticed by many. However, for some individuals, at the right moment, that support can be life changing.

At a USPUK community event, an Afghan participant, like many others navigating the challenges of resettlement in the UK, was experiencing stress linked to personal and family pressures, alongside the wider difficulties of starting a new life in an unfamiliar environment.

During the event, he spoke with Anil, USPUK’s Afghan Project Lead, as part of a wider discussion around wellbeing and the pressures faced by refugees. In that conversation, a specialist support service was mentioned, something Anil himself had previously engaged with. The individual expressed interest and was provided with further information and a referral link.

The conversation ended there, or so it seemed.

Nearly two years later, the two met again. This time, the individual shared how acting on that referral had led to several professional consultations that significantly changed his outlook on life. He described a noticeable improvement in how he understands and manages challenges, as well as a positive shift in his overall wellbeing and quality of life.
