Case Study: Supporting a Newly Arrived Refugee Family in Their Resettlement Journey
Name withheld at the request of the service user
Background
In early 2025, a refugee who had been living in the UK for nearly two years was finally reunited with his wife and four young children, after their family reunion application was approved. While the moment brought great relief, it also presented immediate challenges - finding accommodation, accessing services, and adjusting to life together in a new country.
USPUK’s Role
Shortly after their arrival, the service user contacted USPUK for support. With language barriers adding to the difficulty, our team assisted in completing and translating forms to request temporary accommodation through relevant service providers. This helped the family access safe short-term housing during a critical period of transition.
Ongoing Support
USPUK continued to provide guidance on navigating local systems. We supported the family in registering with a GP, helping with information on enrolling the children in school, and understanding how to access financial and community-based support where eligible. Information was also shared on job fairs and employment opportunities suited to refugees.
To help them move towards long-term stability, we provided details on how to access the private rental market and connected them with wider support networks to ease their resettlement journey.
Impact
The family are now safely housed in temporary accommodation, with the children soon to be attending school and adjusting well. Though the search for permanent housing continues, they are reunited, supported, and looking ahead with hope.
