From Kabul Media to UK Employment

At USPUK, we are proud to have supported hundreds of individuals and families rebuilding their lives in the UK after displacement due to conflict. Among them is one community member we have known since shortly after launching our Afghan Project in 2023.

Before being evacuated to the UK following the fall of Kabul, he worked in the media in Afghanistan. We first connected with him in 2023 when he kindly contributed to one of our community surveys. Since then, he has remained an active member of our community, accessing our services and guidance whenever support has been needed.

Since arriving in the UK, he has successfully rebuilt his career and secured full-time employment, where he has continued to work ever since. During this time, he was also reunited with his wife, and together they have built a new life in England.

As the years have passed, his needs have naturally changed. While employment has brought greater stability, new challenges have emerged. Like many Afghan families rebuilding their lives in the UK, they continue to face significant immigration-related costs, including visa fees and the considerable expense of working towards British citizenship. More recently, he contacted USPUK for support on preparing for citizenship, an important milestone on that journey.

From first engaging with us as a community member to seeking practical guidance as he prepares for the next stage of his life in the UK, we have been pleased to support him at different points throughout his journey. His story reflects the experience of many people in our community, whose support needs continue long after finding employment or settling into daily life.

As he now prepares for British citizenship, his ambition extends beyond simply securing his own future. He hopes to continue progressing his career into the corporate sector, achieve greater financial stability for his family after years of rebuilding their lives, and make a meaningful long-term contribution to the UK through his work and the skills he brings. We hope to continue supporting him as he prepares for the Life in the UK Test and the next steps towards British citizenship, helping him move one step closer to achieving the future he has worked so hard to build.
