A safe place to heal: Yulia and Dominic’s story

USPUK is committed to helping those most in need of safety and supporting the most vulnerable.

One such person was Yulia from Kyiv, who urgently needed medical treatment and a difficult operation that she could not access in Ukraine. She was desperate to reach safety in the UK, where she had Ukrainian friends who could provide much-needed emotional support. However, as they did not have the required immigration status to sponsor her, Yulia still needed to find an eligible UK host.

While living under constant attacks in Kyiv, she struggled to find a host and was beginning to lose hope.

Yulia described how frightening the nights had become: the house would shake during attacks, and she was often unable to sleep. Alongside this fear and uncertainty, she carried the additional worry of how she would receive the treatment she needed and recover safely.

USPUK helped Yulia find Dominic, a caring and experienced host who welcomed her into his home and offered the safe, supportive space she desperately needed.

Now, away from the nightly attacks, Yulia can undergo her operation and focus on her recovery. Dominic’s willingness to open his home has given her far more than accommodation, it has given her safety, stability and hope at an incredibly difficult time in her life.
