Russia launches major ballistic-missile attack on Ukrainian cities
Eight people die and dozens are injured as several cities are hit by missile and drone attacks, while Kyiv continues its own assault on Russian infrastructure.

We’re happy to share another story from a family who has recently arrived in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, supported through our Communities for Ukraine project. A family of five from Kyiv — parents and their three children — are now beginning a new chapter in safety in the UK, away from the daily physical and emotional pressures of war.

One Spare Room Could Change a Family’s Future
At the moment, we have a very limited number of available hosts and a growing number of Ukrainian families looking for safety and support in the UK.
Last month alone, we received 168 applications from Ukrainian families seeking help through the Homes for Ukraine Scheme.
If you are able to offer a spare room in your home or simply help us by sharing that we are currently looking for new hosts — we would be extremely grateful. Your support could help another family reach safety and begin a new chapter in the UK.

STEP Ukraine Is Open for Applications Again
We’re happy to share with our community that STEP Ukraine has reopened applications for people who have not previously taken part in the programme.
STEP Ukraine offers support to help Ukrainians in the UK develop their skills, improve their employment opportunities and take the next steps towards greater independence.
The application deadline is 3 August. Please note that if you have already participated in the STEP programme before, you are not eligible to apply again.

New Info Pack for Afghan community
We’re pleased to launch our new Life in the UK Test Information Pack, created to support members of the Afghan community as they take the next steps in their resettlement journey in the UK.
Available in English, Dari and Pashto, the guide explains what the Life in the UK Test is, how to prepare, and what you need to know before taking it. The information pack is now accessible on the USPUK website, helping make this important stage of the settlement process clearer and easier to navigate.

A Story of Resettlement: how USPUK have supported Afghan family since 2023
Before being relocated to the UK, the father worked on a project supporting the British Government in Afghanistan.
Today, he lives in the UK with his wife and three children, rebuilding their lives as a family of five.

From helping the family navigate their early years of resettlement to supporting them as they work towards greater stability and security, we have been there at different stages of their journey. Now, we hope to support this family, and others like them, as they prepare for the Life in the UK Test and the next stage of building their future in the UK.
Support Displaced Afghans towards Stable Life
More than 15,000 who arrived in the UK through evacuation and resettlement schemes in 2021 are expected to become eligible for British citizenship over the coming months and years. For many families displaced by war and conflict, this represents an important milestone in rebuilding their lives and securing their future in the UK.
We aim to support at least 1000+ individuals through information sessions, workshops, one-to-one guidance and practical resources related to the Life in the UK Test and British citizenship. We are going to target those facing the greatest financial barriers to progressing on their citizenship journey.
Every donation will help us better shape future for Afghan refugee families and finally reach long-term stability.
